At our school, children learn about the importance of the Sacraments through drama, story telling, writing and singing.
We invite members of the Parish to pray for all our children as they prepare to receive the Sacraments. We expect parents to attend all preparation meetings leading up to the celebration of the Sacrament.
In Year 3, our Catholic children are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.
Teachers plan and prepare using specific teaching units from the Archdiocese of Birmingham Scheme of Work ‘Learning and Growing as the Children of God’ and this teaching is supplemented through drama, storytelling, writing and singing.
Parents are invited to attend some of the preparation lessons.
The celebrant for these Sacraments is our parish priest: Father Tony. The Sacrament of Reconciliation takes place during a special evening Mass at 6pm in December. The Sacrament of Holy Communion takes place at a specially designated weekend Mass – normally a Saturday. Due to the number of children there are two Masses: 10:30am and 12:30am
Our Catholic children are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation when they are in Year 6.
Teachers plan and prepare using specific teaching units from the Archdiocese of Birmingham Scheme of Work ‘Learning and Growing as the Children of God’.
This sacrament usually takes place in the Autumn Term and is celebrated with the parish after the children have been prepared across the course of the year, including attending a spiritual residential in Year 5 at Alton Castle.
The celebrant for the Sacrament of Confirmation is usually a Bishop. In recent years, Bishop William has been our celebrant for this holy Sacrament, supported by our parish priest. From 2024 it will be Bishop Richard Walker.
